Five No Sweat Tips To Reduce Mosquitoes Around Your Dallas Property

How hard is it to pick up a Frisbee that is sitting in your yard collecting rainwater? Pretty easy, right? There are many easy things you can do to reduce mosquitoes around your Dallas property. Today, we're going to give you five no-sweat tips for reducing mosquitoes and explain why these tips help. Let's start with that frisbee suggestion.

1. Remove Containers

If you want fewer mosquitoes in your yard, consider picking up any objects in your yard that can capture rainwater. Why? Because many mosquito species breed in stagnant water. Female mosquitoes lay eggs a hundred at a time in still water. The eggs hatch into larvae, develop into pupae, and emerge from the water as adults. When they emerge, you suddenly have hundreds of new mosquitoes in your yard. That's why you're getting bitten all the time. Removing containers can make a big difference. Here are a few ways you can do this:

  • Pick up toys in your yard, such as Frisbees.
  • If you have a kiddie pool, turn it over and empty it when it isn't being used. At the very least, empty the pool out once a week so mosquitoes don't have time to develop.
  • Have your gutters cleaned out. If you look at your gutters and you can see plants growing up there, there is a good chance you have an obstruction that is holding back water. That little puddle is the perfect environment for mosquito reproduction.
  • Bring cups, bowls, and other dishes inside after cookouts. It only takes an inch of water for mosquitoes to breed.

2. Circulate Water

Do you have a birdbath, a little pond, or some other immovable water source? If so, you may wonder, "How do I get rid of that mosquito breeding site?" You don't have to. Mosquitoes breed in water that isn't moving. Water circulation can make it difficult or impossible for mosquitoes to develop in a water source. Add a water circulator to get the water moving around.

3. Reduce Dampness

Some mosquito species lay their eggs on damp ground. Your landscaping is the perfect location for this to occur because you water your plants to make them healthy. But there are ways to give your plants what they need without giving mosquitoes the moisture they need to survive:

  • Water your plants in the morning. This allows the sun to dry the soil.
  • Trim your bushes and put space between your plants. This lets the air dry the topsoil.
  • Remove tree branches that cause heavily shaded areas. If you're noticing that the ground stays damp near your home due to dense shade, trim some branches to let the sun do its job.
  • Fix plumbing problems. Not only will you save money on water, but fixing plumbing issues to prevent the ground from becoming saturated also reduces mosquitoes.

4. Reduce Vegetation

Mosquitoes need sugar more than they need blood. Both male and female mosquitoes draw sap from plants and nectar from flowers to survive. This is the food they eat. If you reduce unnecessary vegetation in your landscaping, you'll be reducing mosquito food. Let this be an incentive to pluck weeds, trim grass, and keep everything looking neat. You'll have the added benefits of reducing moisture and improving your curb appeal. It's a win-win-win.

5. Apply Mosquito Control Products

If you want the best control of mosquitoes possible, you'll need to deploy mosquito control products, such as a mosquito mist application and mosquito traps. This is where the All-Safe Pest & Termite can help. We assist Dallas homeowners with mosquito control solutions that match their needs and budget.

  • We select the most effective EPA-approved products for mosquito control so that your yard can fight off mosquitoes without making you, your kids, or your pets ill. When mosquitoes come into your yard to reproduce by the hundreds, they'll immediately be met by the residual products applied to key mosquito resting sites on your property.
  • Eliminating even one female mosquito will prevent hundreds.
  • We install the In2Care System to lure female mosquitoes to breed. When females lay their eggs in these devices, the eggs are destroyed and the female mosquitoes are eliminated as well.
