Frisco Scorpion Control

The most common scorpion pest in our area is the bark scorpion. One reason it is such a common pest is that it can climb surfaces and squeeze in through cracks in the exteriors of man-made structures. If a bark scorpion finds its way into your Frisco property, it can present a health concern, as the sting of a bark scorpion can be very painful. Long before these scorpions get into your home, they're going to be invited to come into your yard. The more you know about the conditions that attract these dangerous arachnids, the greater chance you'll have of keeping them away.

Hiding Places

When bark scorpions come into your yard, they're going to look for things to hide under. This is why you find one underneath a towel or clothing that has been left outside by the pool overnight. They'll also get underneath scrap wood, dead branches you've collected into a pile, brick piles, stone piles, etc. If you provide lots of hiding places, bark scorpions will love your property.

  • Remove yard clutter, particularly organic clutter such as leaves and grass clippings.
  • Hang clothing, swimsuits, towels and other items over furniture, rather than putting them on the ground.
  • Move wood, brick, and stone away from your exterior walls.

Humid Habitats

Bark scorpions need moisture. They can find moisture underneath the objects in your yard, but your landscaping can be the perfect environment for them. Here are some tips to make your landscaping a little less attractive to scorpions.

  • Trim bushes, shrubs, and plants so that there is less coverage for scorpions to hide under, and so that moisture isn't trapped under dense vegetation.
  • Water your plants in the early morning.
  • Have your gutters cleaned and repair any breaks in your gutter system. If you're able, consider installing gutter guards to prevent debris from getting into your gutters.
  • Keep your lawn mowed and avoid having tall grass.

Food Sources

Scorpions are hunters. When the sun goes down, they come out to hunt for insects. If you have crickets, centipedes, spiders, and other pests, scorpions will love your property. You can reduce all pest activity on your property by addressing moisture and by removing the hiding places scorpions use. But, the best way to address pest activity is to invest in a residential pest control program. We can help you with that. At All-Safe Pest & Termite, we offer comprehensive pest control services that help to address pest activity and reduce food options for scorpions.

Keeping Scorpions Out Of Your Home

It doesn't take much of a gap for a scorpion to get into your home, so should these insects have reasons to come into your yard and explore your exterior, it can be very easy for them to get inside. Do a detailed inspection of your exterior and consider these key points of entry:

  • Damaged screens and gaps around screen frames can allow scorpions to get into the space between screens and windows or sliding glass doors. When doors or windows are opened, scorpions can slip inside.
  • Gaps in your exterior wall just above your foundation can provide quick access. Use a caulking gun to seal these gaps and fill the space around foundation penetrations, such as your water main and electrical PVC conduits.
  • Old weatherstripping, misaligned double doors, and missing door sweeps can all provide gaps for scorpions to exploit.
  • An unprotected weep hole in brick or stone facades has the potential to let a scorpion inside.
  • Trim tree branches away from your roofline. This can prevent bark scorpions from accessing your home by way of vulnerabilities on your roof.

Curious If Scorpions Are Staying Away?

If you use the steps provided above and you want to gauge the impact, you can do an inspection at night to find scorpions around or inside your property. Bark scorpions glow when black light is shined on them. A portable black light UV flashlight can get this job done. Use it to inspect under structures, in gaps and crevices, and within undisturbed areas of your home, such as your attic space.
